How breeding works in the new Lumenhollow

Every Glimkin carries its own genes, so no two look alike. Raise yours with affection until it is an Adult, pair it with another Adult, and the egg in the nest takes something from each parent. The two parents can be different species; the egg hatches as one of the two.

Colours

Each Glimkin has a body colour, a second colour and a glow, picked from a ring of 24 shades (Ruby, Ember, Amber, Jade, Aqua, Cobalt, Violet, Rose and the rest). A child's colour lands somewhere between its parents' on the shorter way round the ring, so a Teal paired with an Indigo hatches anything from Teal through Aqua, Sky, Azure and Cobalt to Indigo, and two of the same colour breed true.

Patterns and rarity

There are 8 patterns in 4 tiers:

When the parents' patterns are of different tiers, the rarer one passes about a third of the time. Now and then (2% of eggs) a pattern jumps a tier, which is how a pair of common parents can still hatch something rare.

Traits

Each Glimkin has 2 or 3 of 12 traits, such as Swift, Swimmer, Keen-nosed, Lucky or Night-owl. Each of a parent's traits passes on its own (a bit under half the time), and once in a while an egg arrives with a trait neither parent had.

Hidden genes

Some Glimkin carry a gene you cannot see: Duskborn, Dawnkissed or the rare Starlit. A carried gene passes to an egg half the time, and it only shows when both parents pass the same one. That is the long hunt: two carriers, and a little luck.

The rhythm

Early access

The new Lumenhollow starts with 4 of the 29 Glimkin species (Moko, Fenn, Pim and Tindle), and your meadow is saved in this browser for now. Already raising a Glimkin? The classic game is still on the home page. Meet every species in the bestiary, or read the guides.
